How Breast Implants Can Go Wrong, and What Corrective Treatment is Like

The word "failed" is not something you want to associate with surgery, especially cosmetic surgery like breast augmentation. Women in London considering breast augmentation have a wide range of surgeons and techniques from which to choose.

One of the most common methods to enhance the breasts is implants. Unfortunately, several reasons exist why breast augmentation with implants can go wrong. Perhaps not enough research was done on the surgeon who performed the procedure, or you saved money with one doctor over another. A poorly qualified plastic surgeon who provides low-quality work can cause breasts to look undesirable.

Breast Augmentations: A Prevalent Plastic Surgery Procedure

Breast augmentation is one of the most performed plastic surgery procedures worldwide. Hundreds of thousands of women each year opt for breast augmentation with saline or silicone implants to increase their breasts' size, shape, and overall appearance. In most cases, women are satisfied with their results, as skilled surgeons can deliver excellent results.

But what occurs if the surgery is over, your post-operative wounds have healed, and you don't like the results? Depending on the reasons for your dissatisfaction, revision surgery may be necessary.

What are the symptoms of failed or botched breast augmentation with implants? Here are some results that may be considered undesirable and will likely require revision surgery:

  1. Bottoming out: this happens when the implant falls too low due to poor placement or implant placement in a breast that was not firm enough to support the implant.
  2. Poor placement happens when breast implants are placed too high, too low, or too far apart, making the cleavage look too wide. Implants can also be placed too close together, forming a compacted impression.
  3. Asymmetrical complications. These occur when one implant is higher or lower than the other or when one implant is larger than the other.
  4. Rippling. This can occur when the implant recommended by the plastic surgeon is too large, especially in thin women or women with lean breast tissue, which can cause wrinkling or rippling of the skin around the implant.
  5. Poor shape of the implant due to poor surgical technique during the initial augmentation procedure.

What Happens During a Breast Implant Revision?

Breast implant revision surgery usually involves implant replacement (replacing saline implants with silicone or replacing implants of a different size) or correcting a deformity caused by breast augmentation. In some cases, scar tissue must be surgically removed or the breast cavity reconstructed so the new implant can be attached to its new location.

The surgical technique will be discussed during the consultation and adapted to the patient's needs, depending on the desired correction. Recovery time after breast revision surgery varies. For a revision that requires some reconstruction or transplant, recovery will be longer and may take 6-8 weeks.

Elite Body Sculpture Provides An Effective Form of Correction

Botched breast augmentation results are an unfortunate outcome that, while rare, do occur. London-area patients considering a breast enhancement with fat transfer to improve their figure following an implant removal should consider a corrective procedure like AirSculpt®.

The AirSculpt® Fat Transfer Correction doesn't use scalpels, stitches, needles, or general anesthesia, allowing for a more precise and safer correction than traditional liposuction-based fat transfer methods. We only require two-millimeter-wide entryways to remove and transfer fat, meaning scars should resemble freckles if they do form.

Entry points are made with a dermal punch and heal with just compression garments and bandages, and all skin numbing is done with a needless jet injector. Because patients remain fully awake, the risks associated with sedation are not introduced.

Our fat transfer technique enables patients to collect fat from several areas of the body and inject it into the breasts, restoring a naturally full look. It should be noted that patients must have had their implants removed before AirSculpt®.
